Mary Valdés Tapia

Mary Valdés Tapia holds a Ph.D. in Management from the University of Ottawa, an MBA, and a degree in Accounting and Auditing, with more than 25 years of experience in executive, academic, and consulting roles in Chile and abroad. A specialist in management control and sustainability in mining, she is trilingual (Spanish, English, and Portuguese) and has developed her career in institutions such as Codelco, the Chilean Internal Revenue Service, ArcelorMittal, and the Universidad Católica del Norte, where she served as Director of the School of Mining Business, researcher, and lecturer at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

She is the founder and CEO of Ecomina, a technology spin-off focused on regulatory compliance in sustainability for SMEs supplying the mining sector. She has been recognized with various awards for her trajectory, including being named one of the “100 Inspiring Women in Chilean Mining” (WIM, 2024), the nomination for the Best Dissertation Award 2023 by the American Accounting Association, and excellence scholarships granted by institutions such as the University of Ottawa, the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) of Canada, and the Government of Chile.
She also serves as an advisor to the Women Economic Forum Chile, REDICEC, and Redes Chilenas de Investigación, and works as a speaker, consultant, and mentor on leadership, sustainability, and innovation. Her career reflects a sustained commitment to the scientific and sustainable development of the mining industry.
